Juan Carlos Delira, father of five and working for union shop is just like anybody else. He has a mortgage, a car, a bank account, credit card, cell phone and even a 401(k) retirement account from his employer. However, what makes Juan different from the rest of us? He's an illegal immigrant.
" if I was in Mexico, I would have only this whole room for my family if I'm lucky," Delira said comparing his home in Arlington "
Delira, who crossed the border when he was 14, spent his first year in the United States working as a dishwasher and living under a bridge with other illegal immigrants. They cooked over an open fire and showered by blasting one another with hoses that a car wash.
Jose Luis Flores, 38, who lives in an Arlington apartment with his wife and three children comments, "I don't have documents, but I have money... many companies are more interested in my money than my immigration status."
Flores has been able to buy a car, cell phone and set up a bank account. He is now applying for mortgage.
but what about the issue of Social Security numbers? How do they get around that issue?
Since 1996, illegal immigrants have been able to obtain individual taxpayer numbers (TIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to file federal income taxes. Some use their TIN ID number as a form of identification and to create a paper trail that portrays them as someone worthy of residency or citizenship.
" An Arlington accountant who asked not to be identified showed the tax returns of two illegal immigrants who qualified for refunds on their federal taxes because of dependent credit for their children.
One University of Texas at Arlington student said he benefited from financial aid that Texas offers to illegal immigrants. He covered the rest of his tuition and fees with an honors scholarship, which he applied for with the dependent number his father used on his tax return.
"I'm building credit on that," said the 21-year-old student, who asked to be identified as Jose. "It's just as good as a Social Security number; it's just not good for working." "
In comparison, just like US citizens, in Texas an illegal immigrant can get bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, tax deductions and tax refund as well as state financial aid for colleges, reduced in-state tuition, college scholarships & public education. Also, medical care, health insurance, restraining orders, protection by fire police department and court-appointed attorneys.

I'd love to see the illegals deported - especially ones with credit cards and loans. They I'd like to hear the crying of all those financial institutions whining because of their losses.
Then they might get a slight feel of the losses the average taxpayer feels when their taxes go to support the hideous infrastructure - from public schools to medical to food and housing - created because of the illegal criminal aliens.
actually, that is an excellent point.
of course, I am sure that corporate America will pass on the cost to us.
If Texas is allowing illegals to reap the rewards of citizenship without earning it, then maybe all the illegals should move there. I'd bet money Bush would do something then. I'm pretty sure he's a 'not in my backyard' type of guy.
So why are the credit card companies not in trouble with INS or Homeland Security? Or for that matter, the company that gave out an IRA, and the IRS for giving out a tax credit to an illegal. Did ICE not just raid businesses that are aiding the problem? They missed a few.
Hey Justadog, If certain financial institutions giave credit to the illegal aliens who have no intention of paying off the debt, then they dexerve what ever losses they occur. The only problem with this is that they saddle the rest of us with higher interest rates to offset the losses incurred by their stupidity.
thats how a lot of the illegal families here reap the benefits of public assistance. they dont have a SS# so they dont have provable income, yet they do work and make money like people who dont get assistance.
so many illegals are on foodstamps and OHP that when you call the AFS office the recording answers IN SPANISH and you have to press 1 or 2 or whatever to get the message in english! why do we support illegals anyways? what other country would let us live illegally, feed us, cloth us and give us a house to live in while we stayed there? Oregon calls it "refugee status" i think, so thats how they justify it. they arent illegal, they're refugees. ha ha.
Chris, These illegal aliens are as much "refugees" as the terrorists are "freedom fighters". They are a terrible blight on the US and I am appalled and more than a little ashamed of our government, who I voted for, for being so apathetic toward this abomination.
But, at the same time, I have to believe that things would have been many times worse had Kerry and Roberts been voted in last time around.
