do you agree that illegal immigrants should have the right to vote?

Fox News --

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano commented on Tuesday that illegal immigrants [aliens] pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their children to local schools -- and therefore should be able to vote.

Elizabeth Benton, spokesperson for DeStefano said "we're not seeking to apply this to any other city, this is about New Haven and what we think makes sense for New Haven... we want every adult in our community... to be able to vote in local elections that affects their families and futures."

She continued to say that this is not as much as an immigration issue as it is a New Haven resident issue.

in 2007, New Haven made national headlines when it approved a program providing municipal identification cards for all residents including illegal aliens for access to services such as banking and using the library.

when I heard this over the radio, my jaw dropped in dismay as I wondered where our country is coming to.

How many people have died for our freedom and to protect our right to vote?

in my opinion this not only cheapens what it means to be a citizen but it also is a slap in the face to all those people who spent the time, money and effort to come here legally to join American society.

And I don't think I'm being racist when I say "Hell no" to allowing people who are not even supposed to be in the country in the first place, full privileges of being a citizen.

Part of the reason why we have the problem that we have with the illegal immigration is that we turned our backs on enforcement and basically held the door open and now everybody's paying the price for it.

So the next time unfortunately when somebody makes a comment that our country is not for sale...

how would you feel about video recording devices in your vehicle?

Robin's commentary --

We all know that the government looks for any type of excuse to put new regulations on us and I was not a bit surprised that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) voted unanimously to recommend to ban all electronic devices while the driver is driving...

And yes that means the use of hands-free cell phones.

They are also recommending
"Require all heavy commercial vehicles to be equipped with video event recorders that capture data in connection with the driver and the outside environment and roadway in the event of a crash or sudden deceleration event. The device should create recordings that are easily accessible for review when conducting efficiency testing and systemwide performance-monitoring programs. (H-10-10)
Require motor carriers to review and use video event recorder information in conjunction with other performance data to verify that driver actions are in accordance with company and regulatory rules and procedures essential to safety. (H-10-11) read more from the NTSB...

and that's not even the half of it.

I wish that I could post the whole article on here but of course copyright regulations prevents me from doing it so I highly recommend that you go to the link above and read the entire article and the NTSB's recommendations.

some will say that the NTSB can not create new regulations they can only make recommendations however, the new nationwide handheld cell phone ban was recently passed due to the NTSB recommendations.

so when is enough... enough?

How much of big brother do we have to have in our lives?

I get pretty tired of using safety as an excuse for replacing common sense to add new regulations.

And while some will say especially regarding commercial vehicles that having a video recording of the driver in order to fight (get ready for here's the buzzword) driver fatigue, they don't look at the real reasons for the fatigue which I will not go into at this writing.

Just remember, today they're talking about commercial vehicles for the installation of video recording devices. Cars already have black boxes in them to reconstruct an accident it's only a matter of time before agencies like the NTSB recommends video recording devices in all vehicles.

Just my opinion.

NTSB finds excuse to take your cell phone's totally away

The Star Telegraph

take a real close look at this picture before you do anything else.

Look at real careful and before reading the article try to picture how this happened.

And yes that is a pickup rolled up in a ball between the semi and the school bus.

Good... now would you believe that a 19-year-old texting on a cell phone could cause this?.

That's what they want you to believe...

in fact, the NTSB is wanting to take away all electronic communications including hands-free cell phone devices and is using this accident as an excuse to do so.

BUT THERE IS MORE...

according to the NTSB investigation, the teenager was traveling at 55 miles an hour while the semi-had already slowed or stopped for a work zone, and then the two buses plowed into the pickup that the teenager was driving. Investigators are also saying that there is a total of 11 text that were sent and received by the teenager within or close to the time period of the accident.

but what you believe?

in fact, while putting together this article, I try to look at different sources to try and get the best information and one of the things that I came up with was a contrary information which I am showing below here.

mixed information!
one article says that
"Investigators also found significant problems with the brakes of both school buses involved in the accident. A third school bus sent to a hospital after the accident to pick up students crashed in the hospital parking lot when that bus' brakes failed.

Read more:Star Telegraph

another article claims
an inspection 10 days before the accident did not reveal faulty brakes on one of the buses, the NTSB said. The faulty brakes were not a factor in the accident, the NTSB said, because the driver said she did not hit the brakes before the crash.
read more:CNN

the unfortunate thing is that several people did lose their lives resulting from this accident and that's what the NTSB is focusing on to try and push a total electronic ban.

While the teenager was at fault, the lead bus driver wasn't paying that much attention and claims that they didn't see the brakes on the pickup come on.

tragic yes... a reason to ban all electronic devices in your car or commercial vehicle?

NO!

Presidential Candidates -- do your homework

CBS News--
on a morning radio program, Newt Gingrich was asked what he would do about Syria in 30 seconds or less where antigovernment protests has led to a violent crackdown.
his response...
"I can give you a three-second answer. Replace Assad. I mean Assad is our enemy. He is an ally of Iran. It is a bad dictatorship. It is to our interest to get rid of dictators of this kind."

although Gingrich did not specify which methods that he would use, he did acknowledge that there would be consequences.

before commenting, I recommend reading the entire article at the link above.

My first impression when I read the article however was, "here we go again trying to be the world police and we cannot even take care of our own house."

the other point that he made that stood out was, "it is in our best interest to get rid of dictators of this kind."

I understand the thinking that we need to get involved if it goes against OUR best interest... but my thinking is that unless they prove to be a direct threat to the United States or other countries with undeniable evidence [referring to the false allegations of weapons of mass destruction] what right do we have to go overseas and get involved in other countries affairs?

In fact, have we ever had a presidency where we have NOT been in a war?

Our own country is falling apart at its knees to the point that like you would normally see overseas with people marching in the streets who would've thought that some of those images would actually from our own country.

Granted, the occupied movement is getting a little carried away... however, if you look at the original nationwide movement and the fact that people from all walks of life participated, that says that there may be a problem going on.

However, when coverups and denial have become the norm for government, where our leaders approval rating has reached below 9%, we need to not be so worried about other countries and less like I said they are a DIRECT threat to us.

Like the old saying... you can't help somebody unless you can help yourself.

Herman Cain decides to suspend his campaign

CBS news --

Herman Cain said that he would be "technically suspending" his bid for the presidency after the latest in five allegations from women who claimed that they have had relations with Cain.

The now former GOP candidate said in a statement alongside his wife Gloria, "I'm not going to be silenced and I'm not going away.... I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt caused on me and my family..."

does that sound familiar?

If you recall, when Ross Perot was running for president as an independent, he rose in popularity very quickly in a short period of time, in fact, both the Democrats and Republicans were so worried about him that they started mimicking his style. Yes, in short we were being "charted" to death. I have a chart that I would like to show you... :-)

In the end, Ross Perot dropped out of the race when his family began to be threatened.

In my opinion, I think that's was going on here as Herman Cain is obviously a serious threat to the GOP as if looks like he could realistically win the Republican nomination.

#1 just like with Ross Perot, how fast he came up in the ranks out of nowhere got the good old boys extremely worried.

#2 his sudden popularity in the following even though he is not an experienced politician. It is for that reason that a lot of people are really excited about them.

#3 he has a history in business and a proven track record of fixing failing businesses. The organization or business known as the United States of America need somebody who is experienced in managing a large corporation successfully. Politicians at the helm as best they those with no previous business or work experience is not what we need in the Oval Office at this moment.

#4 although not perfect, his popularity in wanting to change the tax code. OUCH! There is too much power and money at risk to start meddling with the system.

#5 it would be really hard for president Obama to pull the race card out again when his opponent is the same color.

#6 the same reason that president Obama got elected was that Americans are tired of the same old same old in DC. The common thinking at least in my little circle of friends, was that there was no way that we wanted to put Bush or a bush like candidate in office and pretty much that's what Senator John McCain was.

Course on the other hand, president Obama got elected by acting like a used car salesman and telling people what they wanted to hear.

"Hope and change."

What is interesting however is that how easily a sexual allegation can destroy a candidate and since the first four did not have a serious impact on Herman Cain's numbers, #5 turned out to be the death blow.

Even though Herman Cain still vows to continue to be a presence in the background just like Sarah Palin starting with his website, you really need to step back for a moment and look at the big picture of what recently happened.

Start with looking at the timing of these women that have come out and made the allegations and almost in perfect order, how each one's allegations topped the other one.

Sadly, I think many people would agree that if Herman Cain did not drop out of the race with now, that there would soon be threats on his life.

In the meantime, the not ready for prime time presidential candidates show must go on.

Lane transit District (LTD) -- EmX expanding?

Robin's Commentary

LTD got the message alright about how welcome they are with all the no build signs in West Eugene so they're going to focus their efforts more on the LCC and East Springfield lines.

A question regarding the EmX which not been answered yet, is how having specially designed buses that travel on a dedicated route actually pencil out in both time and money.

The only answer that LTD has given in the past, is that there is federal grant money for the project.

Speaking of, LTD has been awarded $750,000 to evaluate the expansion of the EmX service.

Additionally, LTD has been awarded $3 million in funds to replace aging diesel buses that are more than 12 years old with hybrid electric buses.

Personally, I can see that as a better move than expanding the EmX project as I feel that putting more buses on the road would better serve the community versus having fewer buses in a dedicated line.

But when asked the question, who keeps pushing for these projects... I would point the fingers at Congressman Peter DeFazio, Senator Ron Wyden and Senator Jeff Merkley which is interesting, because I think two out of the three actually live in Lane County although not 100% positive of that.

... Congress ineligible for reelection if the deficit is more than 3% of GDP

CNBC --
Warren Buffett, was interviewed on Thursday July seven 2011 and during his interview, he was asked what he would do about the deficit.
""I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."

this is such a simple and novel idea coming from someone with a proven successful background... I'll see why we shouldn't work to implement it.

One of the arguments already is that once Congress (or anybody else) gets into office, the first thing that they do after they settle in is to start campaigning for reelection.

Congress and the president both however have too many rules and regulations that they pass for us (their bosses) that they are excluded from.

Below, there is been this little message that has gone viral around the Internet claiming that it's Warren Buffett's idea for the 28th amendment. By the way, Warren Buffett denies that he came up with these ideas... in either case, they sound good.

*Congressional Reform Act of 2011*_

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

according to CNBC,An attorney in St. Louis, Jarrad Holst points out that there is actually a way under article 5 of the U.S. Constitution titled "convention for proposing amendments" to enact the idea without the corporation of Congress.

Congress's approval ratings are at an all time low... perhaps now, it's time to start looking at real change.

"stop pointing missiles at me!

The Mirror --

headline: "Navy warship order to stop pointing guns at Michelle Obama's hotel window"

"you can't point those guns that the first lady." Sources said as US Secret Service agents were spooked that sea dart missiles were pointing in the direction of the First Lady's five-star suite.

The HMS Edinburgh missiles were drill rounds used in a ceremonial routine after a 26-year-old lieutenant's body was discovered in her cabin.

Mrs. Obama is on "official visit" to Cape Town South Africa.

Oh yeah... the president ordered 100 troops into South Africa to go to seize a religious army tyrant.

oh my God!

How many wars or conflicts does it make for this president since he has been in office?

As I have stated many times on this blog, and on the radio program that in the 21st century it is way too easy with the speed of technology to have a rogue president bypass our safety measures (our safety measures are too slow and need to be updated) to get us into these conflicts.

All it takes is for a president to really push a country's leaders buttons the wrong way and next thing you know we are in World War III.

And on a what should be a minor note... waht official business is Michelle Obama doing over there anyways? Telling the Africans how to eat?

Or just another excuse for another vacation?

and speaking of the President, my cohost on the radio program asked the question, "how much damage can somebody do in four years?"

Answer: A LOT!

Occupy Wall Street Movement
funny, the government just doesn't get it

Robins Commentary --

Occupy Wall Street --
"Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants."

it started in mid-September when protesters marched the streets and has turned into a nationwide phenomenon including one this last weekend in Portland Oregon.

Despite the reasons behind it, it has gotten the attention of some of our political leaders and what's really interesting is some the explanations that are leaders are stating for the reasoning behind these protests.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor called the protesters a "mob" and suggested they had been encouraged by the Obama administration.{CNN}

House Democratic [clueless]leader Nancy Pelosi commented, "God bless them for their spontaneity." {MSNBC}
I am surprised that she also didn't add to the comment, "aren't all those little people cute with their little protests?"

Herman Cain called the protesters "jealous" Americans who "play the victim card.{San Francisco Chronicle}

while reading all of this, play the Carly Simon's song, "you're so vain."

Personally, I think all of the above are just clueless and I think if you look at the big picture, this is the nonviolent revolution that people have been talking about for years.

In my opinion... the government just doesn't get it the fact that the people are sick and tired of the way things are running and how they are not responsive to the people's needs anymore.

I wish I could remember who the representative was a couple months back on the Lars Larson show when Lars was referring to the November 2010 elections about the message that the voters sent.

His guests responded, "what message was that Lars?"

The bottom line in my opinion, no matter what the reasons for the occupy Wall Street, occupy Portland, occupy San Francisco, etc. the real message is being sent is that we as a nation still stand together and as a nation we will be heard.

"United we stand... divided we fall"

federal governments "selective" enforcement

Times Union --

Federal prosecutors have launched a crackdown on pot dispensaries in California warning stores that they may shut down in 45 days or face criminal charges and confiscation of their propertyeven though they are operating legally under the state's 15-year-old medical marijuana law.

US Attorney Melinda Haag stated that the intent of the medical marijuana law in California was to allow marijuana to be supplied to seriously ill people and nonprofit basis however, Andre Birotte Jr., US Attorney in the Los Angeles area noted that people making money from medical marijuana is the "new California gold rush."

isn't it fascinating that the federal government will decide to throw its full force in one issue, especially when there's money involved and yet totally turn a blind eye when it comes down to border security.

Isn't capitalism great?

elected officials don't have to prove that they have the right to work

Robins Commentary --

In the past, most presidents history have been an open book except for our current president whom it has been very difficult to trace his past in particular, the issue over his birth certificate.

notwithstanding the implications and embarrassment if in reality our president was not a US citizen but I would think that one of the lessons that we should have learned from this experience regarding president Obama's birth certificate is that with the upcoming elections, we should require ALL elected officials to follow suit like the rest of us who have to prove that they have the right to work (I-9 form)within the United States before taking office.

Currently, to my knowledge, according to a friend of mine who is a Former Lane County Commissioner, there is no such requirement.

which again is one of the reasons why it has been proposed for a 28th amendment of the Constitution which seeks to require that laws apply equally to the government as it does to US citizens.

another example of just how bad Oregon sucks

Robins Commentary --

As people who know me and who know my history, know that I have spent the majority of my life working as an electronics technician ranging from component level electronic repair to high-speed manufacturing and robotic equipment.

Of course in the Eugene area to my knowledge we do not have that much manufacturing going on in order to apply for a job in my particular field so I have to start searching outside of the area such as Portland.

Recently, I discovered a job that was fairly similar to my last job working for a international company that closed in 2003 and I was thinking, "hey, I think I could apply for this."

One little problem...

This job requires in Oregon LME license.

Okay sure... so I go to the state of Oregon website and look up what a LME license is and it turns out just like when I used to own my own business that it is a Catch-22 scenario.

In other words... you could have 50 years of experience from another state, degrees up the yang and still not be eligible to take the test for the LME license.

The license requires the completion of a two-year apprenticeship and/or have worked and can show at least 4000 hours in a "licensed and qualified" facility.

In a way I can understand previous requirement however, I feel that if you have the experience such as myself that you should be able to challenge the test.

By the way... even though I have over 4000 hours of experience, apparently, according to the state of Oregon the company that I worked for "technically" was not following the law as far as licensing so my experience does not qualify.

Oh yes, to add to the frustration, I called the states of Arizona and Nevada and found out that they have no such requirements and both basically said, "come on down!"

Personally, (and also based on my dealings with the state) I think that Oregon needs to lighten up a little bit with the license requirements especially in this recession because they are definitely limiting access to living wage jobs.

While the representative from the state of Oregon commented that I could go through a two-year apprenticeship program in order to get the license... that may be easier said than done.

Illegal aliens in the family
President Obama is two for two

Robin's Commentary --

The issue of illegal aliens is really starting to heat up especially within the White House arena after the Obama administration decided to put a halt on deportation of over 300,000 illegal aliens.

WHY?

Why has the president been so adamant about pushing for "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" and the so-called "DREAM act?"

Perhaps the answer lies in one of the biggest issues or reasons for granting amnesty is to keep families together.

The issue of keeping families together seems to be a personal issue within President Obama's own family when it was first divulged that Obama's Aunt Zeituni "Auntie Zeituni" Onyango was an illegal alien living in Boston and overstayed her visa in addition to not complying with her 2004 deportation order and then granted asylum in 2010. Times online

I guess it really helps your situation when you're related to the commander-and-chief

Recently, the President's half uncle Onyango Obama, 67, when he was arrested last week for drunk driving and it was discovered that he is an illegal alien.

Uncle Obama has been living in the United States for nearly 50 years and also ignored a deportation order in 1992 and now plans to use the same lawyer that his sister used to fight the deportation order.

According to Fox news, Obama has a valid Massachusetts driver's license obtained in 1992 and a valid Social Security number.

While it is currently unknown how Obama attained his legal documents... speculation is that he was here legally at some point and that his visa ran out.

In my opinion... just like the President's Aunt, I would say that it is a fair bet that uncle Obama will also be granted asylum.

But you can't help wondering how many other of Obama's illegal relatives are in the country.

if anything has come out of the birth certificate issue is that all elected candidates (just like the rest of us) should have to provide proof that they have the legal right to work in the United States.

But at least it answers the question regarding President Obama's push for amnesty is more of a personal family issue and not just to obtain the Hispanic vote.

it's okay to break the law as long as it's a "low priority"

Washington Times --

"This case-by-case approach will enhance public safety..."

The Obama administration said Thursday that it will halt deportations proceedings on a case-by-case basis against illegal aliens who followed in the criteria of having family in the military, being primarily responsible for other family members care (that could be anybody) or attending school.

Homeland [in]security Secretary Janet Napolitano commented that they need to focus on "priorities" (which apparently being in the country illegally does not fall under that category)

the new rules apply to those who have been apprehended and art in deportation proceedings.
"The Obama administration should enforce immigration laws, not look for ways to ignore them,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican. “The Obama administration should not pick and choose which laws to enforce. Administration officials should remember the oath of office they took to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the land."

this president is really working his best to sell out America before the end of his term.

In my opinion, the only GOOD thing that came out of his presidency is that it brings to light that we need to have better controls over our elected officials.

Obamacare is an excellent example of how the government can FORCE the American people to do something that they do not wish to do and when the 11th Circuit Court ruled that the Obamacare is unconstitutional... the White House has vowed to appeal.

President Obama I feel is living in a fantasy world and a world of denial as he puts it towards the recent S&P downgrade from AAA to AA.

Under previous presidents the question had been asked, "are you better off now than you were four years ago?" to "how's that hope and change working out for you?"

if you want something done... throw federal dollars that it

KMTR --

According to local news service (KMTR), Eugene police (EPD) has initiated a sting in an effort to crack down on seatbelt violations by commercial truck drivers.

the first of three operations which is completely funded by Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) took part in an Interstate 5 commercial truck surveillance operation conducted last Thursday where officers positioned ON THE I-5 FOOT BRIDGE NEAR GATEWAY MALL looking for drivers not wearing a seat belt or exceeding the speed limit with the offending vehicle information being forwarded to a police officers staged on the interstate.

according to ODOT, 26% of commercial truck drivers do not wear seatbelts whereas only 3% of passenger vehicles.

in addition to Thursday's operation, any commercial vehicle that was pulled over by officers was given a "level 2 inspection" by EPD officers which have been trained in authorized by the federal government to perform such inspections.

by the end of the day Thursday, more than 40 truckers were cited.

Isn't it interesting how Eugene police (EPD) who constantly is complaining that they do not have enough money to properly cover the city can find money and resources to go do a stakeout on the bike path over I-5 to target those evil truck drivers who may not be wearing their seatbelts.

What excuse is of course safety... the real reason in my opinion is as always money.

Despite the fact that the majority of the trucks that travel through Eugene are long-haul truck drivers which increases the chances that the drivers will not be able to make it to court to defend their ticket... several of Eugene police officers have been authorized by the federal government to perform level 2 commercial vehicle inspections which means that they inspect everything from the drivers logbook to the marker lights.

Any of the above violations result in a huge fine and points against the driver which under the new regulations (CSA 2010) may get the driver fired or make it harder for the driver to get a new job.

The money for this operation by the way was provided both by ODOT and the federal government.

next time you hear them complain that they don't have enough money to protect your home and property or have enough beds to house criminals such as what is going on with the Sheriff's department currently, remember this little operation (which is one of three scheduled)
you vote.

president Obama and Congress need to attend credit counseling

New York Times --

president Obama that is pressuring Republicans on Wednesday to accept higher taxes as part of any plan to pare down the federal deficit [which they created, not us] and told lawmakers that they "need to do their job" before the United States risked the faulting in its debt.
Obama directly challenging Republican leaders, "everybody else has been willing to move off their maximalist position — they need to do the same."

The House speaker, John A. Boehner commented stating that the president's remarks ignore legislative and economic reality.

John A. Boehner is 100% correct... they are not living and economic reality in fact, somehow they must think that we have an endless pot of money that all they have to do is pass new legislation to take it from us.

like the Obamacare for example in 2016 if you do not have qualifying health insurance, you may be fined for a family over $2000 which could be more than your tax return. Now what is the federal government going to do when you can't pay it?

Personally, regarding the debt ceiling... I hope that the Republicans stick to their guns and do not raise the debt ceiling and force the government to start making massive cutbacks [which of course will first be Medicare, Medicaid and other issues which will directly affect US] and wring them back into reality.

Remember... WE THE PEOPLE did not incur the federal deficit... WE HAD NO SAY OR CONTROL OVER IT!

And if we did... I seriously doubt that we would have borrowed money from another country AND THEN turnaround and give that money out to somebody else.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke stated recently that he was confused and puzzled why the economy was not recovering as predicted.

Look in the mirror!

In closing, I have some food for thought...

The president stated that the United States risks defaulting on its debt.

so what?

Who's going to come to us to collect it?

I mean seriously... the IRS or other debt collectors that the "normal" citizen faces when it defaults on its debt?

And what collateral did we give China for the money that we borrowed?

I hope that Obama didn't take out a second on the White House.

Friday, June 24, 2011

hey, did you hear the one about the armed military troops crossing the US border the other day??

Pro 8 News --
Headline:"Mexican troops in three military trucks crossed into the united States at Bridge Two" which clearly is a violation on international law and [surprise] Customs and Border Protection inspectors were trying to figure out what to do because the troops told them that they [their words] lost their way to Nuevo Laredo and did not know the area.

"you see, I told you you should've stopped and asked for directions!"

got lost? yeah right! GPS?

...and I have a bridge that I can sell you too!

Actually, I am not a bit surprised that the customs and border protection inspectors were confused about what to do because they were afraid that somebody might say that they were "profiling" if they detained them.

but what is even more interesting is that if this was as "serious" as the news story is making it, why is this not hitting the headlines all over the place and why is there not any follow-up story on this either?

I guess because in reality if Mexico really wanted to invade the United States, they wouldn't just sends three armed vehicles through the front door, they would just send masses secretly through unprotected parts of our borders....

... oh wait...

the PC crowd gives illegal immigrants a new name

Robin's commentary --

first they were "illegal aliens"

Because that too harsh, they were renamed "illegal immigrants"

but that is not very politically correct...

So that was changed to, "undocumented immigrants"

still seemingly kind of harsh and insulting to some people...

So the new name for those who are not authorized to be in the country is...

[Insert drumroll sound effect]

[Wait for it...]

INFORMAL IMMIGRANTS

*sigh*

So I guess the next time that somebody breaks in your home, just remember that it is not politically correct to call them a burglar... or a "home invasion robber"... they are now known as...

"Informal house guests"

Robin's commentary...

The next proposed route for the EmX [and increase vehicle congestion]is the West 6th & West 7th to West 11th.

The question that was asked of LTD is why can't you just use the buses that you already have and not build a special bus route.

To sum up their answer... Federal [tax] dollars are predominately earmarked for capital projects and cannot be reallocated to enhance existing bus service which is largely funded by local payroll taxes [advertising, ridership, etc.] which is impacted by the local economy.

so my opinion, the bottom line is that they're not trying to implement the service in order to improve transportation, it is because the carrot of federal money is hanging out there for them to go after.

But remember, no matter what the source of the funding whether it be federal or state, ultimately it comes from the same source.

Yeah!, lets get everyone out of the cars and use mass transit

Robin's commentary --

To all those people that are really pushing to "get us out of our cars" I just wanted to say that some of those people are really glad this coming Monday that we have cars as I was asked already by a coworker if they could get a ride to work because....

LTD WILL NOT OPERATE ON MEMORIAL DAY

So for those mass transit greenies who prefers to rely totally on mass transit...

I for one am going to make it to work on time Monday morning.

we can't fix potholes but we can come up with $640,000 for art for the I-5 bridge

the register guard --

The I-5 bridge over the Willamette River which will open in about two years from now will contain sculptures that will epict a river and canoe, and two baskets containing camas.

ODOT is using $640,000 in federal money to commission the three sculptures and that money will be used to pay for the artist design, make and install the works.

okay, this is one of the examples that just gets me fuming.

We are constantly inundated with the government crying that they do not have money for road maintenance, funding for police and fire and has to close or reduce bed size in jails.

HOWEVER they ALWAYS seem to find a way to come up with money for art.

SCREW THE ART... FIX THE DAMN ROADS!!!

When the economy gets better... we can always add art to the project later and besides, people driving through the area will be more impressed with well maintained roadway versus rough roads and pretty roadside ornaments.

the bottom line... like I have said before, "right pocket... left pocket... it's still the same pair of pants" or more importantly...

IT'S OUR MONEY... QUIT SPENDING IT FRIVOLOUSLY!!!

So next time that our government representatives decide that they would like to raise our taxes or add additional fees let us refer to all the money that is being spent for "art" or other pooh-pooh projects and let them know that we gave you some money... and this is how you spent it... now go away!

the Apocalypse...
Not as exciting as I thought it would be

Robin's commentary --

Except for an eruption of a volcano in Iceland, the 2011 end of times prediction made by American Christian radio host Harold Camping stated that on May 21, 2011 that God's elect people would be taken on this date with the end of the world to follow on October 21, 2011 was rather quiet considering Camping's prediction that there would be massive earthquakes across the world beginning at 6 p.m. Eastern.

"In Christian eschatology, the Rapture is a reference to the being caught up referred to in the Biblical passage 1 Thess 4:17, when in the End Times the Christians of the world will be gathered together in the air to meet Jesus Christ.-- Wikipedia

I guess that means that if you don't show up for work on Monday... you have a valid excuse.

As for the rest of us... if you didn't get a chance to take the trip the first time, you'll get a second chance according to Sir Isaac Newton who proposed based on his calculations using figures from the Book of Daniel that the Apocalypse could happen no earlier than 2060.

as for the real date of the rapture... God only knows.

the rapture happens today at 3 p.m. Pacific Time

Robin's commentary --

the rapture happens today at 3 p.m. Pacific Time...

I wonder how many people are going to use that as an excuse to get out of work?

do you think schools should be paid for out of local utility taxes?

The Oregonian --

Lake Oswego businesses and residences will see an increase in utility franchise fees for Northwest natural gas, Allied waste of Lake Oswego and Portland General Electric under a one-year plan approved by the city Council this week which is expected to generate about $807,000.

The increases which will take effect in January and August will increase the homeowners amount to about five dollars per month [$60 per year] which should help divert $2 million in city revenue to public schools.
"Councilor Bill Tierney, who supported the proposal, said "it's the cleanest way of providing support for the schools."

Lake Oswego city counselors voted 4-3 to approve the fees.

the thing that really gets me angry is that they probably said to themselves, "it's just five dollars a month... anybody can afford that!"

the Eugene city income tax "bombed" big time sending a message to deaf ears that while we support the schools, we also do not have any money to spare.

the sad thing about all of this, is that the money is there, it has just been "budget" for other nonessential items.

Like the EmX bus, or the money required to be diverted for art projects, etc..

Like I have said many times before, "right pocket... left pocket... it's all the same pair of pants"

Meaning... you have to pick what is more important to you.

Do you want to send your kids to schools or have a fancy new bus system or in Portland's case light rail?

but you can't have both.

You decide

given the recent events... would you vote for Barack Obama in 2012?

Robin's commentary --

Given the recent death of a Osama bin Laden by US forces, president Obama has been [of course] on the news taking credit.

of course, it is very difficult based on our government history to not think that there is some type of conspiracy behind this or the timing of bin Laden's death.

Obama's ratings have been very low and typically in the past when a sitting president had announced that he is running for another four years... you are constantly bombarded with news with people chanting "four more years" which I have not heard yet.

so I have to ask the question based on recent events, does that change your mind of who you're going to vote for in 2012?

In a recent poll by local TV station KVAL which asked the question, "which candidate do you support for President in 2012?"

Acknowledging that these polls are unscientific the results so far still surprise me.

As of this writing, president Obama is leading by 37%.

My feelings on Obama is disappointment. I was hoping that he would be "different" than the normal GOP BS that we've been offered.

John McCain, to me was just another "President Bush"

Hillary Clinton, I think the name says it all.

Barack Obama, made a good sale. "Hope and change"

As America, we bought the lemon and I'm hoping that this time around we have learned our lesson.

Bike Portland--.
SB 130 which passed the full Senate (28-1)back in February adds green, yellow and red bicycle signals to the list of traffic control devices, amending ORS 811.260 and 811.360.

commenting about the benefits to drivers... committee chair representative Cliff Bentz stated...
"the benefits for the driver would be more predictability in intersections... by having a separated, dedicated signal, were able to stop the cyclists and have motorists move through the intersection without worrying about what the cyclists may or may not be doing... and of course vice versa."

bicyclist disobeying the new traffic control device would be subject to a $287 fine.

personally,I think Bentz is living in dreamland.

we already have laws in place in order to handle this type situation. Adding another traffic control device is just going to add more confusion and traffic delays.

However, if you want to follow that same logic... how bout a separate traffic control device for pedestrians because as you know it is definitely confusing to motorists when a pedestrian wanders back and forth from curb to curb and you don't know which curb or when there are going to step off.

Oh yes, I forgot... we already have one of those devices and we see how well people obey those.

speaking of predictability...
I was even backing a truck out of a customers driveway with a spotter stopping traffic for safety and a bike rider (you know, one of those professional bike riders that are all geared up with their fancy bike riding outfits)tried to ride underneath my trailer totally ignoring my helpers commands to stop and wait.

do think renaming Highway 126 is a good idea... I don't

Robin's commentary --

With the recent murder of officer Chris Kilcullen, there is talk and even a Facebook page that is been set up with the proposal of renaming Highway 126 to the "Officer Chris Kilcullen Memorial Highway"

While the idea is honorable... please let me explain why I don't think it's a good idea versus actually placing a memorial bronze plaque or statue at 52nd Street and 126.

We have several roads which have been renamed in Eugene area, such as beltline renamed to Randy Pape Beltway, Leo Harris Parkway and Bob Straub Parkway. who in the hell are these people?

not to be rude... but unless you happen to know who these people are and why a street was named after them... it's really rather meaningless.

Think about it!

That's why I think that in addition to a tree that has been planted at the location of his murder 52nd Street and 126, adding a plaque or statue or something at that location would be more appropriate because you could also add an explanation of what happened and who officer Kilcullen was and what he meant to the community.

Just my opinion.

Eugene police officer Chris Kilcullen -- Memorial at 52nd Street hwy 126

Register Guard --

I'm going to do this blog segment a little different than previous ones without regurgitating what happened. If you'd like to read more details about this, please refer to the link above.

What I wanted to say is that I stopped by the roadside memorial located at 52nd Street and Highway 126 and I must say that I am very impressed and proud of the support from our community regarding this tragedy.

During the 15 minutes that I was there, at least 10 people have stopped by to pay their respects and had the opportunity to speak with a few of them, including one who lived nearby.

in honor of Officer Chris Kilcullen tragic death, I am proposing that there should be a permanent memorial placed at this location in remembrance of officer Chris Kilcullen's dedication to his duty and his services to the community.

Below are some of the pictures that I took of the tributes that people have left honoring officer Chris Kilcullen.

Officer Chris Kilcullen, thank you for your service to our community.

Eugene police officer Chris Kilcullen -- RIP

Register Guard--

Chris Kilcullen, a 12 Year veteran of the City of Eugene police force currently assigned to the motorcycle traffic team died in the line of duty last night while trying to stop Cheryl D. Kidd, 56, of Springfield on Hwy 126 in the Thurston area.

Kidd fled the scene and was later taken into custody unharmed after she turned into a US forest service road reaching a dead-end.

Kilcullen is survived by his wife and two kids.

sometimes we forget just how much of a dangerous world it really is out there especially when it hits home in our own little community, because you would expect this to happen more in larger cities like Los Angeles or New York.

we have actually been lucky in this area while even though a few officers have been shot while performing their duty, Kilcullen was actually the first officer to die in Lane County since 1934.

our hearts go out to him and his family and to all those who every day who risk their lives in order to protect ours.

EmX sign code battle continues
Is the city overstepping its boundaries?

KEZI--

after an anonymous complaint the city of Eugene sent out letters to several businesses in the Eugene area requesting that they either get a permit for their anti-EmX signs or take them down.

However, Brian Michaels, a local attorney says that the sign code needs to be researched.

"it's a very cautious journey for the city to enter into when it tries to stop speech. Particularly when the speech happens to the contrary to what the city is proposing to do." Michaels said

one of the businesses who were targeted by the city says that the city is definitely out of line and that his sign isn't going anywhere.

personally, I think that the city is playing with a hot potato because people over the last couple years are getting pretty fed up with the games that the city of Eugene has been playing.

Recall what happened when the voters rejected the public safety tax initiative and the commissioners went ahead with it anyways?

businesses ordered to take down the EmX signs
I'm surprised it took so long

KEZI --

The city Eugene after receiving several complaints has ordered several businesses to remove the "no build" EmX banner stating that the banners violate the city signed code.

Laura Hammond of the city of Eugene said that "there is signs on both sides of the issue. Our job is not to worry about what's on the sign, but really the size and placement of the sign."

The city of Eugene stated that the code inspectors don't go hunting for violations they just follow up when they receive a complaint.

okay, be honest... is anybody really buying the city of Eugene's excuses?

A show of hands please?

Yes, you in the back... yes, third door on your left.

No, I did not think that anybody did.

However, we all know that we are going to get that stupid bus system whether we want it or not.

The reality is... federal dollars are at stake.

Fees attached to tuition

On Lars Larson today, they were talking about extra activity student programs that have nothing to do with education...

and because I love Lane Community College so much, I thought that I'd point out some of the extra tuition fees that students are required to pay...

$5.00 Technology fee - use of computers labs, etc
$27.00 Transportation fee - [this pays for LTD whether you use the bus or not!]
$12.00 Student Health
$30.00 1st time enrollment fee

Special activity fees...

$46.25 student activity fee -- this is broken down to...
$3.00 OSPRIG
$7.62 co-op
$7.44 ASLCC operations
$12.00 recreational sports
$2.00 International Study program
$0.50 BSU (Black Student Union)
$2.00 Women's program
$2.75 Torch (Student newspaper)
$1.90 CDC Subsidy (child Dev)
$3.00 Longhouse Building
$0.50 Student Production Association
$1.00 Learning Garden

I don't think that every student has access to everything that they are paying for.

government avoids shut down
Is anybody surprised?

Miami Herald--

Congress and the White House averted a partial government shutdown agreeing to last-minute budget cuts of 38.5 billion from federal spending.

isn't it interesting the top news items regarding the federal shutdown was the military not getting paid and the funding for Planned Parenthood which Nancy Pelosi called a "war on women."

Give me a break!

I tell you, our government can be more entertaining than a late-night sitcom.

Frankly, I was hoping and so were a lot of other callers on various talk shows for the government to shut down despite some of the consequences of such.

If for no other reason, maybe it would force them to tighten up some of the pork belly spending with our money.

Well, at least Jay Leno and Letterman will have something to talk about.

should we waived tuition fees for foster children?

The Oregon Capitol News --

A bipartisan proposal to waive tuition and fees for Oregon's public universities, community colleges and the Oregon health and science University for former or current children in foster care which is estimated to cost about $1 million was approved on Wednesday.

"I’m uncomfortable, to say the least, about passing anything without a complete fiscal [impact statement],” said Rep. Betty Komp, D-Woodburn.
"I certainly haven’t had any time to study this bill or have communication with my colleagues, much less any of the advocates,” she said. “This is like walking into a tunnel blind."

Portland Democratic Representative Michael Dembrowwho is one of the sponsors of the bill's has asked that the fiscal impact statement be removed so that the bill would not have to go to the Ways and Means committee.

the house subcommittee on higher education has already approved the fee waiver and it has to be passed by the house is full education committee before it could proceed to the legislature.

to be honest... I have mixed feelings over this.

Dembrow claims that there are "so few children" that would qualify for this that it would be hypocritical not to offer them this type of education break.

I would think that trying to pass this type of bill without a financial impact statement sounds like trying to sell snake oil. e.g. somebody has to pay for it.

The other concern is that parents might consider sending their children to foster care who can't afford to send their children to college to get a good education.

Rep. Julie Parrish commented that in order for the colleges and universities to "absorb" the tuition costs that other students are going to have to pay for it.

Moron Alert! Sales tax again

the Oregonian --

John DiLorenzo, lobbyists and lawyer would like to introduce a Sales tax In Oregon to provide [insert background harp music] basic health care coverage for everyone in the state.

his theory is by imposing a five to 7% sales tax, Oregon to raise enough money to cover everyone in the state.

the cure are all just like measure 66 and 67 and we all know how that worked out... IT FAILED BIG TIME because they didn't take into account of how many businesses and people have left the state.

DiLorenzo believes that the bonus to employers is that it could knock 15-20% off their payroll costs.

*sigh*

I really don't believe these morons. We are in tough times, the money tree has not only gone bare but the limbs are fallen off of it, and they still think that we have more money that we can pay in taxes, not to mention that we've already told them NO nine times on a sales tax and they still suggest it.

I sure would like to know what world these guys live in because it sure isn't mine.

President Obama announced his bid for reelection
According to electoral college... he's already been reelected

USA Today --

270 votes from the electoral college is all it takes to win the election.

According to the NBC battleground map, president Obama would already received 232 electoral votes.

well I guess since the election is already been decided, why even bother.

So what do you think?

Are you in favor of Obama being reelected or not?

and do you feel that he has been good or bad for America?

Nanny state wants headlights on ALL the time

Statesman Journal --

Oregon lawmakers (with nothing better to do) are considering a bill make vehicles more visible would requires drivers to have their headlights on all the time.

The house committee will hear testimony on Wednesday April 6th.

OMG {sigh}

just another way to make money

first of all, ODOT says that fatal car accidents are down 13% in 2010 then why are these idiots wanting to pass more laws...

Oh yeah, the money issue.

plus

if these people can't see a car in the day time, then you don't belong on the road.

think you're getting a free ride having electric car... think again

business week --
Oregon lawmakers are considering charging eight a letter to vehicle owners 1.4 three cents for each mile they drive beginning with cars from the 2014 model year.

Oregon has already been considering a program similar by placing a GPS in your car and charging you your "road tax" when you fill up. Road User Fee Task Force

opponents of the measure say that it's too early to tax electric vehicle use because they wish to make using "nonpolluting" more attractive.

the question really comes to mind in my opinion, is it really about making electric car owners "pay their fair share" or is it really just about opening the door for the GPS per mile tax debt the state of Oregon has been considering for a few years now. (See link above)

It's funny in a way... they are always screaming that we should conserve more, drive more efficient vehicles... and then whine very loudly when the revenue drops dramatically because of their efforts.

HEY! I'm broke and homeless, so take your fines and .....

The Oregonian--
a frustrated Ashland city Council is considering an "exclusion zone" as an alternative to the thousands of dollars in unpaid fines for nuisance violations such as urinating and sleeping on private property by the city's homeless population.

I don't get it... why aren't these people paying these fines?
Like duh, they're homeless!!

Police Chief Terry Holderness commented that some homeless people who do have jobs must pay off the thousands of dollars in fines before they receive any money from their paychecks and that this may contribute to the long-term homelessness.

A violation of the exclusion zones would lead to arrest for criminal trespass.

downtown Eugene is littered with homeless people on just about every street corner asking for money.

Which I find very interesting because according to the US government and the University of Oregon, the recession is officially over and we should be in times of great prosperity.

But I digress... for whatever reason a person's homeless or for that matter is barely struggling to eat, I am sure that the last thing that is on list of priorities is paying a fine.

May I see your cookie license please?

The Oregonian --

House Bill 3189 expands the definition of "bakery products" under Oregon law to include cookies, biscuits and crackers" ...
"bread, rolls, cakes, pies and doughnuts...to be used as human food."

selling selling products such as cookies or other items off the official list would require an additional license.

Officer: I would like to see your cookie license please!

Baker: what do you mean?

Officer: look buddy!! either you have a license or you don't!

Baker: I'm sorry officer, I thought that I had a cookie endorsement underneath my donut license.

A ban that I can live with

NPR --

is driving with a pet in your lap a good idea?

No, this is not a Geico commercial it is a ban that lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 160 which would create a $90 fine for driving with pets in your lap.

first thing I think is an excellent idea.
Driving around with a pet sitting in your lap and/or hanging out the driver side window is not only distracting but dangerous.

But then again... "you can't fix stupid!"

something to consider before buying that android phone

Robin's commentary --

(a shorter version)

Be wary when switching your cell phone carriers as there might be some unexpected surprises.

The first point, is the android.

If the android operating system is 2.1 it will not work with hands-free dialing with your Bluetooth. yeah, you think a smart phone would do everything and wouldn't think twice about the lack of Bluetooth functionality with something as simple as dialing hands-free.

Point 2 if you're switching to cricket and change your mind here is a warning to be aware of.

The cell phones that cricket offers has a 30 MINUTE TALK WARRANTEE FOR REFUND!

So if you change your mind and want to go back to your previous carrier you are not eligible for refund on your phone no matter how many minutes that you placed on it.

Let me quickly explain.

"Porting" a number from one carrier to another is easy.

Porting your number away from cricket back to your carrier closes the cricket account.

If you close the cricket account they CANNOT REFUND YOUR MONEY!

If cricket closes the account for you, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PHONE NUMBER!

If your new carrier ports the number, it will automatically close your cricket account and you will still LOSE YOUR MONEY."

BECAUSE OF THESE OPTIONS, I HAD TO STAY WITH CRICKET OR RISK LOSING $200

Don't make the same mistake that I did.

PS... the cricket customer service department sucks.

When you call them... assuming you can actually get through the automated operator... you have your choice of talking with somebody in Spanish or almost English. Talking with somebody that actually knows what's going on is actually a flip of the coin.

Medford Distrito Escolar foro presupuesto sólo en español

[roughly translated... English not welcome]

Mail Tribune --

from a recommendation of the advisory committee and in an effort to reach out to Medford's Latino population which comprises nearly 21% of Medford's 12,500 member student body, the upcoming school district budget forum will be held entirely in Spanish.

"it will give us a chance to hear from a part of the community that doesn't always have a voice," said Medford school Superintendent Phil Long. "We have made really more of a concerted effort to reach parents who don't speak English as their first language but have kids in our schools. They are part of our community, and we want to make sure we hear from them."

Long commented that it could be very intimidating for non-English speakers to speak at public forums even though there is a translator available.

I wonder if they're going to provide an English interpreter?

Probably not...

The bureaucracy might look at it as discrimination.

TriMets "sonic bike path" plays "feeling groovy" as you drive over them
as part of the 1.5% requirement for art

The Oregonian --
"slow down, you move too fast," a song by Simon and Garfunkel, is a tune that will be created by bicycle tires as they drive over the grooves in the sidewalk among the last 150 feet at the end of the each span of the bridge to remind riders to slow down because they're about ready to enter traffic again. [I hope that they have music rights for the copyright]

The "musical sidewalk" is part of the 1.5% of the $1.5 billion MAX line from Portland to Milwaukee Tri-Met is trying to find matching funds for.

and being Portland, it goes without saying that only trains, buses, streetcars, pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to use the 1,720-foot bridge.

gosh golly Batman... this is what happens when "free money" runs wild.

Sure glad that the recession is over and all of our budget problems have been solved.

Oh wait...

an interesting technical support communication
Or lack of

Robin's commentary --

for years I've been very happy with trend micro antivirus software. In fact, I thought that it works so well that even when there was an issue, trend micro automatically took care of it.

I have tested several different antivirus products in the past and also used one product to test against another, and in my opinion trend micro always came out on top.

I know some people it's like Ford or Chevy, your preference. However, if you are uncertain whether or not your antivirus product is working? You can use to test virus at Eicar.org

okay... it was time to renew my trend micro antivirus subscription and to update my trend micro Internet security 2010 to the new version that's being offered which is

TITANIUM INTERNET SECURITY [pronounced loudly with a booming echo in the background]

the first thing I noticed about this new product is the lack of configuration settings or options that are available to the user.

Little things like being able to see the other computers on your network or being able to choose the website should you wish to block or allow. Simple things like letting the computer know when is a more appropriate time to do the scanning.

As I search the help files trying to find some information on how to configure things, frustrated I sent an e-mail to (gag) tech support.

My letter to Tech support: (paraphrased)

Dear Tech support... I just installed the new version of trend micro antivirus software and noticed that a lot of options are missing... (summarized above) and I also noticed that when I installed the new software I got numerous warnings that I needed to upgrade my Internet explorer [which I don't use] or the program may not install properly.

The configurations that are available do not match or closely to what your help documents are stating that I should have and I'm wondering if those options are no longer available or did I have a corrupted download?

here is the response to my first e-mail...

Dear Robin,

This is Larry from Trend Micro Consumer Support.

I have reviewed your case and I understand that you are checking for the
Home Network mapping of your Titanium Internet Security after upgrading from
Trend Micro Internet Security 2010.

In line with your concern, Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security uses cloud
technology to automatically stop viruses and spyware before they reach your
computer, so it won t slow you down. It s a whole new way to protect your PC
from Internet threats.

You may check the link below for the new features of Trend Micro Titanium
Maximum Security.
the link took me directly back to the same help files that I was looking at in the first place.

Thank you Larry... to me it looks like I got an automated response which of course NEVER addresses the issue that you're asking about.

So I responded with this letter...

I am assuming that this e-mail will get through.

first of all, you did not address my question. If this was an automated
response to my question, please don t waste my time.

Secondly, as pointed out to my original question, the features or controls
that you are referring to were not included in my installation. according to
the help files, there should be a "my network" feature on the same page as the
"firewall booster". No such option exists, or a least in my installation.

In fact, neither do the other options that you have listed in the link that
you referred me to. The only controls that are available are the scan &
parental
controls.

While the other issues such as "file erase" and other fancy features are all
good and well, basically all I want from the product is just a protected
computer.

I have checked out the website (as per the link below) and I agree with
others in the support chat room who have already tried the titanium product and
agree with me that they are going to stick with the trend micro Internet security
2010 for the reasons I have listed my previous e-mail and above.

Third, although everybody thinks that the "cloud technology" is such a
wonderful thing, AGAIN as I pointed out in my original question, is a matter of
control over my own system which the titanium version does not offer.

Okay...well as it turns out, Larry is actually a real person... I think.

Dear Robin,

It’s me again, Larry your Technical Friend from Trend Micro Consumer Support.

I understand your frustrations and we are very sorry to hear about the problem you experienced with our product.

We do apologize for the inconvenience that you have encountered and we are a live person answering your emails.

With regard to your concern, the reason that your Titanium Internet Security no longer has the “My Network” feature is that your Titanium Internet Security no longer has the feature of a firewall which is replaced by “Firewall booster” which only boosts up the firewall that you are currently using.

However, we could still use your Trend Micro Internet Security on your computer as a protection for your computer.

Best Regards,

Larry

Huh???

okay am I totally daft or does Larry just don't get it?

So at this point, feeling very disappointed with technical support and the fact that I am paying for this product, I decided to call trend micro and hopefully talk to a supervisor about the changes in the program and the fact that I also feel like Larry is totally clueless and treating me like an idiot.

The supervisor basically said that this is the way the new product is, if you don't like it you can go back to the trend micro antivirus 2010 until it expires two years down the road.

He explained to me that the new TITANIUM version uses CLOUD technology, which means that when you surf the Internet that instead the Internet webpage coming directly to your computer first, it will come to our servers instead and then to your computer.

WHAT???

CLOUD TECHNOLOGY is supposed to be the "all impressive buzzword" similar to TRANSPARENCY is with the government. But think about what cloud technology actually is for a moment and how it works.

Currently when you visit a website, the site downloads files into your computer in which your computer relies on the antivirus software that you have currently running on your computer.
Under CLOUD technology, everywhere you go and everything you do will be going through SOMEONE ELSE'S servers first and then rerouted back to you.

The advantage to the cloud technology is that the viruses hit their servers and everything is current and updated on their end.

the disadvantage is a privacy issue as cloud technology is basically a central hub that everything goes through on somebody else's servers and we are entrusting them to ensure our privacy. Whether it is surfing habits or a shared document or calendar, you really don't know who has access to it.

Now I could be wrong... but this is pretty much the way the supervisor explained that antivirus cloud technology works.

Now to the issue of having some type of configuration and options like for example, sometimes trend micro will block a website stating that it has been tagged as being a "dangerous site."

Using Internet security 2010, I have the option of "allowing" that site where as under the "cloud technology" I do not.

Trend micro supervisor: "... you can submit a request to unblock the site..."

So without hesitation... I uninstalled the new version of "TREND MICRO TITANIUM INTERNET SECURITY" and reinstalled the good old reliable 2010 version [which by the way I lost all of my settings] and feeling very disappointed that a company that I have trusted for years has copped this type of attitude.

Making the Springfield Roundabout More Dangerous

Robin's commentary --

As everybody is totally aware (except for the local government of Springfield which totally denies the allegations) that the roundabout at Pioneer Parkway and Harlow Road is a total nightmare and is a road that myself and many other people that I know try to avoid at all costs.

Trying to negotiate a double lane roundabout is hard enough as it is without feeling like you're going to get rammed by some other car who's either not paying attention or their focus is on the other cars trying to get through the roundabout.

Yesterday, as we are on our way to Riverbend Hospital I noticed that crews were setting up the flashing crosswalk signs which would require vehicles to STOP when there is a pedestrian in the roadway.

Granted, I don't think that pedestrians were taken into consideration when they came up with their "wonderful" idea for the roundabout versus using a four-way stop or the old-fashioned stoplights.

Now with the addition of the pedestrian crossing signs, I feel is just another added risk to this already dangerous intersection.

My recommendation to the city of Springfield is just to suck it up, put up a traffic light and make it safer for all.
