Lane County public safety tax

KEZI 9--

Lane County commissioners held a workshop on the public safety income tax and came to a consensus on several issues including putting a cap on the proposed tax. The public safety tax which would raise millions of dollars a year for public safety could be on the November ballot.

This tax [similar to Multnomah county's I tax] would be the only tax of its kind in Oregon.
" At the Lane County District Attorney's office staff are spread thin.
"This office has the highest case load per Deputy D.A. in the state," said Chief Deputy Alex Gardner. "We're 65 percent higher than the state average." "

Lane County commissioners are looking at the public safety income tax to solve the problems in Lane County, however, the commission is still wrestling with whether to get voter approval before an ordinances in place.
which they know is an automatic no!
" there is no limit on our ability to levy an income tax," said Commissioner Bill Dwyer. "State law and federal law currently has no law on our ability." "

the board will hold two public hearings on the income tax. The first will be held on June 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the second will be held on June 28 at 6:30 p.m.. Both will be held in the public service building.

Perhaps the money they currently have would go farther if a notable percent weren't going to housing criminals that are also illegal aliens.

Also, I've seen the number of illegal aliens in Lane County climbing - as well as auto thefts, drug arrests, etc.

Get the picture?

The same is true of wanting to raise the money the "public assistance" programs get. The money they currently get is going out the door to people that are not even suppose to be getting the Oregon tax payer dollar.

there was an article that I read recently that said Springfield's Hispanic population was 6.9%.
of course I'm not saying that they are all illegal, but I wonder what percentage is.

Robin, maybe the county wants to help the city pay the over 2 million dollars in law suits brought against the police because of the two scum bags Magana and Lara. Now I see Lara is already out of jail. Makes me sick. He was fast tracked out by going to some boot camp.

Eugene (KMTR) - A convicted sexual predator and former Eugene police officer is back in Eugene working on making his final transition back into the community after being released from a state correctional facility.

Juan Lara was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of sexually coercing women while on duty.
How in hell can they let this scum out before the lawsuits are even settled?? I give up.

Once again our money is needed to care for the criminal. Why don't they put more money into education so people will be smart enough to get a job instead of robbing everyone else?
And, yes, I can see the overload on the DA and welfare systems being because we are taking care of non-citizens.
They charge for a stay in the jail (gray-bar hotel), but are they collecting from EVERYONE?

The 6.9% Hispanic population is the actual census from 2000. If you think for a moment the tax increase is going to be passed by voters you have another coming.

Because of the of the tax increase that is why Springfield passed a capital bond to pass their own 100 bed jail because of the lack of trust with the county.
