Statesman Journal --
Oregon lawmakers (with nothing better to do) are considering a bill make vehicles more visible would requires drivers to have their headlights on all the time.
The house committee will hear testimony on Wednesday April 6th.
OMG {sigh}
just another way to make money
first of all, ODOT says that fatal car accidents are down 13% in 2010 then why are these idiots wanting to pass more laws...
Oh yeah, the money issue.
plus
if these people can't see a car in the day time, then you don't belong on the road.

Well, our legislature has so much important work to do, like passing "The Code of the West" that it's really a shame they can't presently meet year-round.
But all they're doing in this case is adhering to instinct. Politicians are, in essence, herd animals. As such, they don't like to stand out; that's exactly what predators look for.
So when a politician sees a law - preferably in another country (Canada, in this case) - they confer with the herd and collectively decide that since some other politicians did it and nobody got eaten, it's safe to do likewise.
Robin- Friday afternoon I was driving to work and a newer Mitsubishi pulled behind me with the these new super-bright headlights that were flashing. I thought it was an undercover cop but apparently it wasn't because they were only white and he followed me for about 1/2 mile without a siren. Have you run across anything like this? It really is distracting.
That is very interesting Bobkatt.
I know that they have them for motorcycles and I think they decided to get away from that idea because it was too distracting.
I will look into it and see what I can find and post it here.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks Robin. I almost rearended a car looking in my rear view mirror to see if I was being pulled over.
You are right I have seen these on newer motorcycles and they don't seem as distracting as this car. They were flashing light the police lights, left then right, then left, etc.
Bobkatt, from what I have determined by searching the Internet and asking people that I know and in law enforcement that automated flashing headlights are illegal on private passenger cars.
The light flashing pattern that you are describing would definitely make you believe that you were being pulled over by a police officer.
It is highly probable that the car that you are referring to might be an unmarked police car, in either case, if you suspect that somebody is impersonating a police officer... make a note of the license plate number and call the nonemergency number for Eugene police 541-682-5111 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
