Kulongoski defends Oregon participation in the carousel of information

State of Oregon--

the following is an excerpt dated January 31, 2006 from the office of Ted Tax-and-gouge-me

"As governor, and as former state Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General, I strongly believe that the rule of law is the glue that holds together our democratic society. It is my policy that state agencies comply with all applicable federal and state laws, including laws regarding eligibility for social services."
if the "glue" that he is referring to is anything like superglue, it is very particular about the things that it will "stick" to and then does not hold for any appreciable amount of time.

"State agencies that participate in the information sessions coordinated by the Mexican Consulate do not participate in order to provide to individuals who do not qualify for such benefits. Rather, state agencies, along with local and nonprofit agencies, participate in the sessions in order to serve a growing, underserved and vulnerable population -- none English speaking immigrants from Latin American nations and their families"
which of course if they were here legally, they could go to any these participating agencies during normal business hours for the information that they need .

"it would be wrong to assume that participants at the sessions are simply all undocumented persons; a great number of them are citizens and residents with legal immigrant status. same question, if they are legal, why can they not go to the agencies during normal business hours?
"... as a state, we have a responsibility to ensure that all people in Oregon are aware of their rights and aware of opportunities to which they are LEGALLY entitled.. With that in mind, the state of Oregon is engaged in various efforts to reach out to be underserved communities in our state -- including participation in the carousel of information coordinated by the Mexican Consulate. I intend to continue with such efforts because I believe it is the right thing to do for all Oregonian." -- Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski"

the article in PDF format describes in more detail what the purpose of the carousel is information is supposed to be.

" what agencies offer... information about rights, responsibilities, and program resources verbally through brochures, flyers, and other publications.

Does it also offer information on how to become a citizen?

" what agencies do not offer... no one can "sign-up" or receive approval for benefits at the carousel.
The article says that agencies that participate in the carousel must comply with a variety of federal and state laws that require them to conduct outreach activities towards migrant and seasonal farm workers, people at limited proficiency in English and vulnerable populations in the community.

I could go on... but I think you get the point. I highly encourage you to read the article in its entirety at the above link at the top of this page and form your own opinions.

When you are done, step back and think about which governor that you really want in office at the next election

Sorry if this is redundant, but Teddy is just not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

He has no core....he's a lost soul, who needs to have a public job cause he needs the attention and couldn't run a successful private law practice.

That's why alot of judges are judges...they weren't able to maintain a viable Private law practice.

An analogy comes to mind: it is near impossible for a landlord to remove a tenant once he is on the property. He automatically has rights as a tenant. Remember that movie "Pacific Heights"? I think that is what is happening with our loose ends, as I like to call the borders. Once they are in our country, they are given rights. This mentality goes back as far as the constitution, which in my mind makes Ted a little archaic. It makes me wonder if our government has learned anything from past mistakes. I guess NOT!
