The fat police are at it again, this time in New York City

Fox news--

New York -- the city health Department has unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar over 24,000 foodservice establishments from using ingredients that contain artificial trans-fats that are found in some shortening, margarine and other frying oils.
" labeling is one thing, but when they totally been a product, and it goes well beyond what we think is prudent and acceptable," said Chuck Hunt, executive vice president of the city's chapter of the New York State restaurant Association . "

The proposal would also create problems for national food chains such as McDonald's, Kentucky fried chicken, etc. who rely on deep fryers.

Some restaurants such as Wendy's have already announced that they will be switching to a new cooking oil that contains no trans-fatty acids

Under the proposal, restaurants will have until July 1, 2007 or risk being fined if an inspector discovers the wrong type of vegetable shortening on its shelves.
so I guess the question is... should restaurants be forced to change and/or should this issue be up to the voters first

They want to make sure you are healthy when you get shot dead by a mugger. These are the same people that sent thousands of rescue workers into that toxic wasteland of ground zero to be exposed to contaminants that they knew were lethal and those heroes are dying today.
For a great insight into the mind set of the fat police go to Dan Carlin and listen to show #64. It's a real eyeopener.

Just another example of liberals pushing their "Government knows best" mindset.

Robin, he is the very same. I definately miss his insight on the radio, but at least you can hear his wisdom on the internet. He is a pragmatist that borders on liberatarian but with ideas that actually have a chance of working. I especially enjoyed his show #66 about how to improve education. Please check it out. All of his other shows are worth listening to.
P.S. He still lives in Eugene and there may be a chance to have him return in the future.

I hope that people see this as a warning signal. If you allow the gov't to infringe on one right, they will continue up the ladder until you have no rights. I will say that it is a good thing that it is being done by the city and not the feds. Easier to fight city hall than big brother. Odd how they allow Nazi's to have a parade but citizens can't eat what they want. If I choose to be fat and unhealthy, that's my right! I don't think anyone will die from my second-hand fat.
