In a memo from the US citizenship and immigration services, subject: ADMINISTRATIVE ALTERNATIVES TO COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM,
"this memorandum offers administrative relief options to promote family unity, foster economic growth, achieve significant process improvements and reduce the threat of removal for certain individuals present in the United States without authorization...
…To promote family unity, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) could interpret two 1990 general counsel options regarding the ability of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applicants who enter the United States without inspection to adjust or change status. this would allow thousands of individuals in TPS status to become lawful permanent residents... where no relief appears available based on an applicants employment and/or family circumstances, but removal is not in the public interest, USCIS could grant deferred action. This would permit individuals for whom relief may become available in the future to live and work in the US without fear of removal… "
it sounds like that no matter what the people want, the government is going to do what it wants to do regardless.
I am still baffled at why the US government is so adamant to not expel people who have entered this country illegally.
If you listen to the talk shows, they're stating that it's for the Democratic vote.
I'm not buying that excuse. I think that there's something more behind it that they're not telling us. Why else would they be defending it so heartily?
If it turns out that the whole reason for selling out our country is solely to try and gain the Hispanic vote for the Democrats, then we have a real serious problem on our hands in which case we need to SERIOUSLY think about dissolving the two-party system altogether as it has become detrimental to the health of our country.
If the security and sanctity of our country solely depends on elected officials trying to get reelected, then that would definitely lead to the downfall of our country in my opinion.
As the old rule of thumb says, "follow the money" there needs to be some serious investigation.
"Immigration-gate" might be the new word for congressional inquiries to the traitors of the US in the U.S. Constitution as well as our security.

You seem to have a lot of ifs in there. You seem to be harder to convince than me that the system is so messed up that I really don't see much hope.
As long as we keep it on the left, right, Democrat, Republican struggle we will never solve any of the problems.
Have you forgotten Mr. Bush's attempt to do the same thing? Mexican truckers, Nafta Highway etc.
unfortunately right now, I feel that America is very "iffy" and that if we continue on our present course, the America that we know will be no more.
As far as hope... I would totally give up hope if I didn't see people really starting to get mad and take action and come together as they are with the tea parties.
governors Jim Brewer and Chris Christie give me hope because they are elected officials who are willing to stand up to the federal government for what they believe in and do the job that their constituents sent them to do.
I only hope that someday Oregon will be blessed with those type of people.
Unfortunately, my prediction, is that the federal government is going to continue to sell us out and it is going to take an uprising of the people to save our country.
I am sorry you didnt read your own blog....
you started with--Congress's approval for amnesty... who needs it! -- OUR PROBLEM is president Obama!!!! your blog is making it very clear that he is not working with or for congress... he is not working for or with the american people, He may be working for mexico.. not (too) sure on that. It is becoming abundantly clear that he has his own agenda and the hell with the rest of the country... I dont think he is inteligent enough to do this all by him self.. there is someone guiding his thoughts and actions... thether is someone within the democratic party or one of his feligeous leaders im not sure... but it certainly is not the american public that I am sure of. We need to get him out of office as soon as posible.. I thought he was wreaking havoc because he has a democratic congress, but now we find he is going around them as well to get his way.. HE NEEDS TO BE REIGNED IN .
Robin,
First of all that's just a memo. It's not policy.
Now, to address some of your points.
I am still baffled at why the US government is so adamant to not expel people who have entered this country illegally.
The memo has nothing to do with people who entered the country illegally. It's about people who are in the country legally but may be facing removal in the future or who *were* in the country legally and are now facing removal or who are *not* in the country and are applying to get in.
Note that the memo talks about "thousands of individuals" for whom "removal is not in the public interest". This is a very small number of people compared to the millions who are in the country illegally. The numbers and the "removal is not in the public interest" wording suggest that this policy would mostly affect educated skilled workers or their family. Educated, skilled workers are the kind of people we should want to bring in to the country - not expel from the country.
If you listen to the talk shows, they're stating that it's for the Democratic vote.
You might consider listening to a wider variety of talk shows.

Good for you for thinking on your own. Who though are the "they" who are "defending it so heartily" ? I searched on the web and found nobody "defending" this memo at all. I did find lots of people condemning it but it looks like not many of them actually had read it. That's not a rhetorical question. I would like to see what public officials who are defending this memo actually have to say so if you know of any, please let me know.

The policy changes suggested in this memo are minor and don't qualify as "selling out" our country. The two-party system continues to exist because it is stable. What would dissolving it even mean? Forming a third party? That's been done many times - even in recent history. The third party gathers a vocal, relatively small membership, lasts a little while and then fizzles out. Or did you mean something else? Somehow eliminating the Republican & Democratic parties?

I agree that our elected officials spend too much time and too much money trying to get reelected.
As the old rule of thumb says, "follow the money" there needs to be some serious investigation.
Absolutely.

Maybe someday... but those inquiries will have nothing to do with this memo.

Sorry about the repeat postings. Blogger gave me some errors and I didn't realize my first two went through.
Anon, no problem on the repeated posts. :-)
And thank you for taking the time and adding your opinions to my comments.
You are correct about it being "just a memo" however, what really gets my blood boiling is that they are trying to find anything in any way to get people to stay here who don't belong here.
And if the truth be known, that they are willing to support illegal aliens simply for the Hispanic vote than that's why feel we really need to re-look at our two-party system or maybe term limits, because something is seriously wrong.
I still feel however that one of the reason why there is a big push on amnesty is because now with a generation of the illegals have grown up side by side with our children which now puts a face on the situation.
I am a firm believer that we created the problem by turning our backs on enforcement, that the "victims" who are the children (and I've made that point several times on this blog) who had no choice in coming here because of irresponsible parents (another form of child abuse) that we can still be strong and yet merciful.
I am predicting however that at some point we will have a "immigration-gate" when the truth comes out. Follow the money.
In the meantime, I'm willing to bet that the Arizona issue will make it way up to the Supreme Court (kudos to Jan Brewer) and if they still rule against SB1070 still, better learn Spanish. Oh wait, it's already been forced upon our children in Oregon.
In either case, I think most people agree that one of the FIRST thing that we need to do is to regain control of our borders and start taking the security of our country more seriously.
Clif,
Good point regarding the title... I did change it... thank you for pointing that out.
Consider that one of the privileges about being an amateur writer. :-)
