A question that I have brought up in the past about the EmX, is what about safety? The bus is designed for maximum capacity of 100 passengers. 44 passengers sitting, while the remaining 56 (including the three bike maximum limit) stand and hold a overhead guardrail.
The question that I have is about safety. What would happen if the bus got into an accident or had to stop suddenly for whatever reason?
We got an insight into this question Thursday morning when the new EmX bus traveling at full speed collided with a van that turned into the bus at Onyx and Franklin Boulevard in Eugene.
"This one was a little bit of a surprise because it is a controlled intersection. Clear signs he was in a through travel lane and that has been posted like that ever since construction started," said Andy Vobora, LTD Spokesperson.
Even though there were no injuries reported, in my opinion, that could have been a different story if the bus was at full capacity at the time of collision.
looking at the road system for the new bus, in my opinion, it is just an accident waiting to happen, just like that stupid roundabout in Springfield.

This isn't the first wreck either. Add to the list of cons for the EMX.
This isn't an EMX issue. Folks have stood on buses for years...
What would happen?
My prediction: Some illegal alien or homeless person will fake an injury then file a lawsuit.
You and I and the other taxpayers will loose, and lots of $$$ (taxpayer's money) will be paid out almost without question because we surely don't want to offend anyone.
The issue isn't standing as much as it is the potential for accidents because the EMX not only controls the lights but also the lanes. There is no question that accidents will happen until (or IF) people get used to the changes in traffic patterns.
LOL! I remember back in Chicago, whenever there was an accident involving a bus, folks would jump on and fake injuries....
I saw that we have already had an EMX accident. Anyone know if there were riders with owies?

people used to drive without seat belts, ride bikes without helmets, kids did not need car seats, and we did not have air bags.
now schools are thinking of requiring seat belts in school buses to protect the kids, why then should LTD be any different except that would seriously drop the capacity of the bus
