California residents pass ordinance allowing ID cards for illegal aliens

The New York Times
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors gave preliminary approval to an ordinance to make life easier for the large number of illegal immigrants by allowing municipal identification cards to anyone living in the city regardless of their immigration status.
“I think it’s admitting the reality of the situation that we depend on, our tourist and hotel industry depends on, a labor force that’s supplied by, for lack of a better term, undocumented residents,” said Tom Ammiano, the supervisor who sponsored the bill. Mr. Ammiano described the measure as “a passport of sorts,” to “take the kid to the library or open a bank account, or report a crime without being deported.”

San Francisco already has a "sanctuary" policy forbidding local law-enforcement and other officials from assisting with immigration enforcement.

personally, I think this sends a message that enforces the opinion about the lack of respect for the law.

so why stop at illegal immigration?

How about issuing a "free pass" to people that have committed other types of crimes so they do not have to worry about being arrested when they go out in public?

Seriously, what's the difference?

Wonder if this will help Oregon - by getting the illegals here to go south.

Hope so.

OK so let's give insurance ID cards to the poor people who can't afford insurance for their car but still hvae to get to work. I can think of a dozen examples of illegal actions that could use a 'get out of jail free' card. At least give freebies to the citizens who pay the taxes.

Everytime we give a free pass to illegal immigrants, it encourages the practice. Until our government takes the problem seriously, nothing will change. So far, they have swept it under the rug and tackled more important problems like lowering the walls of bathroom stalls because Congressmen can't behave in public. Funny how they didn't see a problem when toddlers stuck their faces under the stalls and said 'hello' to their neighbors.

The Bird Feeder

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled
it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, and I filled it
lovingly with seed.

Within a week, we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the
continuous supply of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the
table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere... on the patio, the chairs,
the table... everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive-bomb me
and try to peck me, even though I had supplied them with feed out
of my own pocket. And other birds were boisterous and loud. They
sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the
day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore.
So I took down the bird feeder, and in three days the birds were
gone. I cleaned up their mess, and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be... quiet, serene, and no
one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see...

Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly, our taxes went up to pay for free services. Small apartments are sometimes housing as many as five families. You often have to wait hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor. Your child's second grade class is behind those of other schools because over half the class doesn't even speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to "press one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding more rights, liberty, and equality.

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

In response to the bird feed comment...do you stop and think about those who are here legally who take advantage of what this country has to offer? Students receiving financial aide WASTE the money on things they don't NEED. They take the opportunity they have of going to school for granted by wasting the money and failing classes. There are people on welfare who can damn well go and look for jobs but they find it easier to have the govt provide for them. And i am not saying immigrants don't do this but so do Americans! For you to direct that comment towards immigrants is appaulling when you know damn well "Americans" take advantage just the same! and not all immigrants are like that for the most part they are grateful to be in this country and want their kids to have a better life. They go to work in places where Americans have never set foot. What will this country do without these people? Go do the field work themselves? HAHAHAHA I don't think so. It angers me to hear people like you talk this way because instead of hating on these people we should appreciate what they do for our country. Let me just clarify that I am not defending those who came here just to live off the govt and have a bunch of kids because i will admit i have seen it. I am defending the people that have come to this country to work and work hard because let me tell you the work they do is very hard and tiring. And that have come to give their kids the opportunity of a better life that they didn't have. I wanted to experience what the field work was like to put myself in their shoes and I did not last very long. My body ached, I was sleepy and tired. I give kudos to those who go out there and do this of type of work.

Ohhh people get over it. Think about this, when your car gets hit and they flee the scene because they still have to drive their kids to school and go to work. Well, you are stuck paying the out of pocket expenses yourself because we took away their license. STUPID! Also in Oregon we have closed multiple DMV locations due to budget loss. Fact is the hispanic community is bringing in a huge amount of revenue for our state. Why not collect on that?

Taking away the ID cards hasnt caused anyone to go fleeing back to the country they came from. They DO still pay taxes (you dont have to have a social sequrity number for that ya know?) So they are tax paying, and are willing to pay all fees for the DMV. I would say charging a higher rate at the DMV for an illegal to recieve his ID is fair. More money for our states for their crime.

I think is a physical connection between you and your ID card.
