LCC President Mary Spilde worries that residents no longer have a favorable view of LCC...

Registerguard--

LCC which recently lost its levy by just over 70,000 (57%) voters voting no on their ballots which would raise over $1 million a year for the next five years. "Everyone was surprised," said LCC President Mary Spilde

Spilde worries that residents no longer have as favorable a view of LCC as they once had.
No sh*t

Some people are theorizing that the reason for the no vote is because they were unaware that LCC was on their ballot until they filled it out.

"We will need to redouble our efforts in the community to tell our story and why the college so important, especially in this economy when we need people who are trained for the jobs we have," Spilde said. "We know we have a lot of friends, and we need to ask them to help us tell our story."

I think the community has already heard their story...from the graduates who are looking for a job and are NOT qualified even with that piece of paper. LCC needs to look at their 'product' and try a new approach, otherwise the community is not going to help.

FYI:

I don't know if it's my browser or not (IE 6), but on your last few posts I have seen a lot of bracketed html text.

Thanks Gully,

I think this is because blogspot is now part of google and I just switched (forcibly) to the new version.

I voted against this because any public school above high school needs to be supported by the students more than the taxpayers.

My daughter worked up to 3 jobs to pay her way though a university in California. Even a community college student needs to learn real life lessons that nothing is free in the world - unless you are looking for government handouts.

I'd also agree with Laura. LCC needs to look at the product they are turning out. If it is one of quality and in demand then business might be willing to help a student's finances.

Let's check what LCC offers on the taxpayer's dollar:

- Massage therapist
- American Indian Languages
- Intro to women's studies
- Foster Parenting
- Detective Fiction
- Latino Literature

Just a sample of what LCC thinks is marketable training.
