A woman is more likely to be raped in Lane County than in New York?

KMTR--

This information straight from the Lane County District Attorney's Office [you know, the same folks that advertised in the paper what crimes they will not prosecute]
"D.A. Doug Harcleroad says crime is a big problem in Lane County and the local rate of forcible rape is one of the highest in the country per capita. "

According to the FBI, Lane County is number five on the list of the 15 largest metropolitan areas in the country for forcible rape.
"While Lane County could not be considered a large metropolitan area, the D.A. says the numbers are a clear indication of a big crime problem. He believes the proposed county income tax is the only way to get the money needed to fight that problem. "

don't be surprised if we see more articles like this to the try to convince us to give them more money.

It has gone down since the two cops were put away. Unbelievably, the one convicted on lesser charges was released already and the lawsuits haven't even been settled yet.

This is the same DA that supports the revolving jailhouse door because of fund shortage - correct? Then why do we need more lawyers? Prosecution does no good if the criminals are turned loose. I don't want to line the pockets of lawyers. We need a better solution. I like the idea that some cities have taken up....passing laws to curb illegals in their town to help cut crime and the drain on public services. Hmmmm.....

I think you hit the nail right on the head, Robin. If they can't "reason with us" their next best bet is to try to scare the crap out of us. Unfortunately, a large portion of the Lane County population will fall for it. Hubby and I refuse to vote for *any* tax increase for *anything* 'cause we don't trust "them" with our money. The same people saying the will use the proceeds to protect us say in the next breat that it will go for "programd", which is rarely a good thing.

'Course, it's likely that if the voters turn it down, they'll find some way to do an end run around us and get it in anyhow.

When they use the phrase "per capita", it's relative. always makes it sound worse than it is.
