Senate majority leader Bill Frist, Republican Tennessee, defended Bush's plan, "we got to secure our borders," Frist told CNN. "We hear from the American people. We got millions of people coming across the border. First and foremost, secure the border, whatever it takes. Everything else we've done has failed. We've got to face that. And so we've need to bring in, I believe, the National Guard."
President Bush plans to speak to the nation Monday 8 p.m. Eastern daylight Time about the stopgap measure and will also mention the need for immigrants to learn English and assimulate in to American culture if they are to become citizens.
